The Duke Human Vaccine Institute is pleased to announce that Dr. Michael Anthony Moody has been promoted to Professor of Pediatrics (tenure) effective January 1, 2021.
Professor with tenure is appointed to faculty members who have demonstrated an extended period of academic excellence at a national level and whose accomplishments justify a permanent affiliation with the University. The granting of tenure is an acknowledgement of the judgement on the part of the institution that the individual faculty member will be an asset to Duke throughout the duration of their career.
Tony Moody, MD is a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics, Division of Infectious Diseases and an Associate Professor in the Department of Immunology at Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Moody serves as the principal investigator of the Duke CIVICs Vaccine Center (DCVC) at the Duke Human Vaccine Institute. The DCVC is one of three vaccine discovery centers in the NIH-funded Collaborative Influenza Vaccine Innovation Centers (CIVICs) program which is working to develop the next generation of influenza vaccines. Dr. Moody is the co-principal investigator of the coordinating center for the Centers for Research of Emerging Infectious Disease (CREID) which is tasked with tracking and responding to emerging infectious disease threats around the world. He also is co-principal investigator of a program grant working to develop a vaccine against syphilis. Dr. Moody obtained his MD from Duke University School of Medicine in 1999 after which he trained in Pediatrics at Emory University School of Medicine before returning to Duke to train in Pediatric Infectious Diseases. He joined the faculty at Duke in 2006 where he performs both clinical and basic science research. His primary basic science research interest is the B cell response to vaccination, infection, and autoimmune disease.
