Sarah Graham Keenan Distinguished Professor of Medicine, Microbiology & Immunology
David Margolis, MD is the director of the UNC HIV Cure Center, and a Sarah Graham Keenan Distinguished Professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His laboratory studies interactions between HIV and the host cell on the molecular level, with an eye to develop approaches to control or eliminate persistent infection in people living with HIV. Current work focuses on the molecular mechanisms that control the latent reservoir of HIV infection within T cells, leading to clinical experiments that attempt to deplete persistent HIV infection and develop the tools needed to cure HIV infection. Modelling the NHP system is a critical component of these efforts.
