Scott Alderman, currently the Associate Director of the Regional Biocontainment Laboratory and Director of Safety and Facilities for Duke Human Vaccine Institute, will be transitioning to a new role as our new Associate Chief Operating Officer, effective August 1. He will also retain the responsibilities he has in his current roles.
As Associate COO, Scott will lead the implementation of operational controls, procedures, safety protocols, and compliance requirements at DHVI. He will direct operational initiatives to grow business and ensure financial strength and operating efficiency, and will be responsible for daily oversight of facilities and staffing of the Regional Biocontainment Laboratory. He will report to Tom Denny, Chief Operating Officer and work closely with Tom to successfully conduct the overall DHVI mission.
Scott has a great depth of experience, with more than 30 years at Duke, working in facilities, safety, and operations.
In addition, Maureen Maughan has assumed the role of Director of GMP Manufacturing and Operations. Maureen will primarily be responsible for overseeing cGMP manufacturing operations. She will report to Althaf Hussain, Senior Director of Product Development, Analytical Sciences and cGMP Manufacturing.
Maureen has been with the Duke Human Vaccine Institute for eight years, most recently as the Interim Director of GMP Manufacturing and Operations and prior to that as the Director of mRNA Program and cGMP Product Integration. Maureen has broad expertise in product development from pre-clinical to cGMP manufacturing of clinical material and early phase clinical trial execution, RNA vaccine production, regulatory development and FDA submissions.
