Safety is an essential component of any research facility. The DHVI safety program supports the Institute’s research effort by promoting a safe environment for all employees, visitors and students. The DHVI safety team is always available to provide our expertise in safety in a professional and responsive manner.
Highlights of the program include:
- DHVI Safety Committee
- Development and maintenance of safe operating procedures (SOPs)
- Agent-specific SOP development
- Safety training for all employees, visitors and students
- Continuous compliance monitoring for all employees
- Comprehensive lab safety program: bloodborne pathogens, biohazard containment, chemical and fire
- Promotion of safe animal research
- Safety audits of laboratory and administrative areas
- Maintenance of training and audit records
- Laboratory assistants: assist DHVI labs through cleaning glassware, removing biohazardous waste and collecting daily laboratory compliance data
