June is National Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Awareness Month
Claire Otero is an PhD Graduate student at Duke studying under the mentorship of Dr. Sallie Permar.
Ms. Otero wants to raise awareness and #STOPCMV because:
Most CMV-infected pregnant women don't know they're infected because CMV infection is typically asymptomatic in healthy adults, but this virus can cross the placenta, which puts a developing fetus at risk of birth defects and neurologic deficits.
