9/10/15 - Congratulations to Jon Himes on receiving the Best Translational Poster Award at the annual CFAR meeting at Trent Semans Center! 

9/1/2015 – Dr. Sallie Permar and other DHVI investigators awarded an R01 to study oral HIV reservoirs in infants.

9/2015 – Research technician Jon Himes awarded a travel award and oral presentation at the annual Nonhuman Primate Models of AIDS meeting.

9/2015 – Dr. Sallie Permar becomes a tenured faculty at Duke University Medical School.

8/2015 – Charmaine Mutucumarana, 3rd year med student, joins the lab – supported by a Doris Duke Clinical Research Training grant!

8/28/2015-Congrats Cody on acceptance into AOA medical honors society!  This is a very competitive honor, inductees are elected by a panel of faculty and peers. Congrats Cody.

7/2015- Congrats to Quang Nguyen, who has been an undergraduate in the Permar lab for the last 3 years, as he received the highly competitive NIH undergraduate scholarship program award. He will receive a scholarship for his senior year and will go onto a position at the NIH after graduation.

6/2015 - MGM grad student David Martinez passes his prelim exam!  Go David!

5/2015- senior lab member Josh Eudailey receives the Permar Lab Unsung Hero Award!  Thanks for all you do Josh!

5/2015 - 4th year med study Robin Mansour presents an oral platform presentation at the Pediatric Academic Society meeting and accepts residency position in the U Penn med peds program - good luck Robin!

5/2015 - the Permar lab makes an impressive showing at the Duke Peds Reseach Retreat, presenting 10 posters!

5/2015 - Duke undergraduate junior, Quang Nguyen, was awarded the 2015 American Society for Microbiology (ASM) Undergraduate Research Capstone Fellowship at @asmicrobiology conference and the 2015 Duke Molecular Genetics and Microbiology Summer Research Fellowship (MGM SURE) to investigate the effect of gut microbiota on SIV immune response. 

5/2015 – Dr. Bialas is admitted into the Duke Scholars in Molecular Medicine Program and receives a small CFAR grant to evaluate determinants of the high rates of congenital CMV transmission in HIV-infected women

4/2015 – Postdoc Kristy Bialas gives an oral platform presentation at the International CMV meeting in Brisbane Australia, reporting on our novel NHP model of congenital CMV transmission

4/2015 – Dr. Permar and team, including Tony Moody and Herman Staats from Duke; Kristina Abel DeParis from UNC, Koen Von Rompay from UC Davis  awarded a HIVRAD P01 grant

3/2015 – Sallie awarded the Triangle Business Journal Health Care Hero researcher/innovator award

3/2015 – Dr. Giny Fouda is awarded a Children’s Miracle Network Grant to develop a small volume multiplex antibody assay for common childhood immunizations

3/2015 – former lab member Josh Amos successfully defends his master’s thesis in Immunology at NCSU

1/2015 – Lab member Lee Jeffries sets off for medical school “down under” – congrats Dr. Lee!


9/2014 - Robin Mansour, 3rd year med student, was awarded the Best Poster in Basic Science Research at the Duke Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) Annual Meeting

7/2014 - Congrats to former Permar lab med student Caitlin Sacha who earned a residency spot at the Brigham and Women’s OB/GYN program and had her first author paper in Mucosal Immunology published this month!

5/2014 – Postdoc Kristy Bialas is selected for a Children’s Miracle Network research grant.

4/2014 - Permar lab presents 5 posters at the Duke Department of Pediatrics research retreat. Giny Fouda wins runner-up for posters.

3/2014 - Sallie Permar has received the 2014 Ruth and A. Morris Williams, Jr. Faculty Research Prize.

2/2014 - Sallie Permar has received the Young Investigator Award from the Society for Pediatric Research.

2/2014 - Giny Fouda has received the Duke CTSA KL2 Career Development Award.
