Gregory Sempowski Receives Pepper Scholar Award
January 10, 2011
Gregory Sempowski, PhD was one of 14 investigators at Duke who received a Pepper Scholar Award from the Duke Pepper Older American Independence Center (OAIC). The Duke OAIC was established in 1992 to support research and training directed toward improving the health, independence, and quality of life of older Americans.
The Pepper Scholars Program supports investigators working on age-related research. Greg was recognized for his work on understanding the mechanisms of age-related immune senescence, the gradual decline of the immune system due to age. Greg and his lab are trying to devise ways to enhance T cell reconstitution to offset thymic immune depletion due to immunodeficiency associated with ageing.
